Walking.

This area has hundreds of spectacular walks for all abilities, many of them clearly marked with estimated time and difficulty rating from car parks.  Some low level walks will take you into wild unspoilt countryside where the only signs of life you may see are likely to be the Golden Eagle or Red, Roe or Sika Deer.  There are also a number of short walks starting and finishing from our house which we will be happy to advise you of.

Munro Bagging/Climbing,  The four most northerly Munro’s are easily accessible from this location, Ben Klibreck, Ben Hope, Conival and Ben More Assynt and there are a further dozen within one hours driving.  We are also fortunate to have approximately a dozen Corbetts close to hand.

Sightseeing, Beautiful scenery and places of interest abound in the Northern Highlands and all can be quite easily visited whilst staying at Lochview.  There are many well-known beauty spots and places of interest but also many lesser known ones that we will be happy to advise you about.

Bird Watching, We have sighted 84 different species of bird from our garden alone in the six years we have been at Lochview, the black throated diver is a common spring/summer visitor to the bottom of our garden and we regularly see the osprey fishing in the loch!  Close by there is a Black Grouse lek where the birds can be easily sighted from your car, the ranger will be happy to take you there during his planned visits in May.

Dolphin Watching, Dolphins and harbour porpoises can be regularly seen from the coast around the Black Isle, organised trips are available but for those of you who want to do it alone they are very easy to find!

Whisky Trail, There are a number of Distilleries in the area, the most famous being Glen Morangie but there is also Auld Pultany, Brora, Ederton and Invergordon.

Fishing, Many of the Lochs around here have very good, wild brown trout fishing available.  This can be arranged very easily with boat hire available on most of them.  We have fishing on Little Loch Shin, which is at the bottom of our garden.  For guests this fishing is free as is boat hire, we only have one boat so its first come, first served.

Hunting, Shooting for deer, Red, Sika and Roe is carried out at the appropriate times in this area and we can arrange it for you given sufficient notice.

Sailing, Lairg is fortunate indeed to have a Sailing Club on Little Loch Shin.  Dinghy hire and tuition is available.
